“Growing up I always had cats and loved them but I was tested and found out I am allergic to cats. I did a bunch of research for a few months and discovered Bengal cats. I met one to make sure my allergies wouldn’t flare up and quickly started looking for a breeder local to me so I could be very involved when picking out a kitten. As this was the first pet I had ever gotten after moving out of my family’s house it was very important to me to find someone who was credible and that I trusted. “We purchased our Bengal kitten from Kathryn in the Spring of 2019. The whole process couldn't have gone any smoother. Communication with Kathryn was great! “We found Ladd Hill Bengals through an online search. The first breeder we contacted never responded to our email or calls so after a week of waiting we emailed Ladd Hill and Kathryn responded right away. We were looking at Bengals because we had read they often don't cause allergic reactions in people who are typically allergic to cats. Kathryn had a litter of kittens getting ready for adoption and let us come out to the house to spend time around some adult Bengals and some kittens so we could see how our allergies responded. As we had hoped, we saw no signs of allergies after spending almost 2 hours playing with them.
The kittens were all very happy, playful and comfortable around strangers when we spent time with them. We went out to meet the cats a total of 3 times before picking up our kitten for adoption - we wanted to make sure we were certain on our decision of adopting a Bengal - and Ladd Hill was very accommodating to our requests to come out and see the cats. You could tell the Bengals had a good home and were well taken care of by the breeders. Kathryn provided us with very good information packets upon our initial interest in the kittens to make sure we were prepared for what owning a Bengal requires - or any cat in general.
We were in line for the 4th kitten of a 4 cat litter. Our kitten had shown some signs of an upset stomach during the adoption process which Ladd Hill Bengals was very up front about. They ran tests and did blood work to make sure our kitten was healthy and ready to take home when the time came. All tests came back negative for any health problems and they even let me speak with their vet prior to adoption to put all of our concerns at ease.
We ended up adopting a male Bengal kitten, Pancake. Right away we could tell that he was a smart boy and raised well for his first few months with Ladd Hill Bengals. He was already litter box trained and has never had an accident in the home. He was already neutered when we got him which was nice not to have to worry about and he had received his 1st round of shots. Pancake is not skittish at all and even hangs out when we have people over and will play with our friends he's just met. He likes his personal space like any cat but he's also a cuddler and will often curl up on the couch or bed with us when we are hanging out watching tv. We slowly introduced the kitten to our 10 year old Miniature Australian Shepard and after a month or two of getting to know each other they are now best friends. Having a cat that can be social around friends (strangers to the cat) and not be afraid of our dog was such a blessing. You can tell he was loved as a kitten and came from a good home that really cares about their animals.
